Home Safety Tips and Best Practices
Here are just a FEW Recommendations to help you keep your child safe. Remember, you should never leave your child unsupervised!

- Set your home water heater at 120 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent burns.
- Put locks on the outside of the bathroom door to keep children out or have toilet locks installed.
- Never leave your child unattended it the bathtub or shower.
- Be aware of which chemicals in your home can be dangerous to your child. Labels that say “Caution,” “Warning,” “Danger,” “Poison,” or “Keep Out of Reach of Children” must be safely secured and out of reach of your child.
- Keep all medications locked away from children. Be sure to secure all child safety caps to medicine bottles. Never refer to medicine as “Candy”.
- Always use safety straps on Strollers, Changing Tables and High Chairs.
- Use Safety Gates at the top and bottom of stairs. For the top of stairs, use Gates that are hardware mounted.(screwed to the wall)
- Make sure a Smoke Alarm is inside or near every bedroom. Smoke Alarms should be tested once a month to ensure they are working properly.
- Children can choke on small things like buttons, coins, jewelry and toys. Be sure to eliminate any unnecessary choking hazards and always be aware of what your child tries to put in their mouth.
- Never leave your child unattended while he or she is eating. Children can potentially choke on pieces of food that are too large or not chewed well.
- Window blind cords should not have a loop. If they do, you may cut the loop into 2 pieces. Also, place blind cords up high where children cannot get them.
- Read the labels of all toys before you let your child play with them and make sure your child is old enough to use that toy. The label will tell you if that toy is age appropriate for your child to be playing with.
- Children should be kept away from electrical outlets. Proper Outlet covers or Safety caps should be used to prevent children form trying to insert items into outlets and to prevent a child from receiving an electrical shock.
- Excess wires from such items as Computers, Televisions and Appliances must be properly secured to avoid possible strangulation.
- Large books shelves and heavy pieces of furniture should be secured to the wall to avoid possible tip over’s.
